Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is dedicated to both excellence and access. The most important facets of the university's mission are to offer high quality undergraduate and graduate programs to a broad spectrum of students and to foster student growth and development.

Unique to Northeastern's mission are the two distinctive features of diversity and community partnerships. Because of its location in the Chicago metropolitan area, the university serves a population which is diverse in age, culture, language, and race. This diversity, a major asset, means that the academic programs utilize a variety of perspectives to enrich the teaching and learning experience and to prepare students for the multiculturalism which characterizes our society. The university's location also provides students and faculty with many opportunities to integrate field-based learning, research, and service with classroom instruction.

Take a look at some of the events Northeastern University has been a part of through their T.E.A.M. and the Peace Connection programs.

	Amma Amma was welcomed to the Chicago area by Dr. Sharon Hahs, the President of Northeastern Illinois University and NEIU Peace Connection Committee.
	Peace Fires Over the years many peace and spiritual leaders visiting campus have participated in the NEIU peace fire ceremonies, including Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohatma Gandhi, primatologist Jane Goodall, Irish spiritual leader Margaret Connolly, spiritual leaders Ravi Shankar and Ajit Telang from India, and a group of Tibetan monks from the Drepung Monastery. Native elders and tribal leaders from many nations have visited in the last 14 years and have participated in the peace fires.
	T.E.A.M. T.E.A.M is an organization on the NEIU campus that is dedicating to promoting the process of experiential and adventure based learning. The hold conferences and work shops throughout the school year.
	Celebration of the Lakes and Waters This was a celebration that bridges the business, faith, government, medical, education, recreational and all public communities, while creating an awareness of the important connection water has on our environment and daily lives. This event was covered on the front page of The Daily Herald, Chicago.
